The mission of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program has been the deliver various kinds of benefits to the eligible employees along with former employees of the Department of Energy, its contractors, and the sub-contractors. The EEOICPA or Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program would cater to several benefits that have been authorized by the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act. It would be pertinent to mention here that the Part B of the Program went into effect on the 31st of July, 2001, and Part E of the program went into effect on the 29th of October, 2004. The office of the Department of Labor of Compensation Program of the Workers has been deemed responsible for adjudicating along with administering the claims filed by the former or current employees or specifically qualified survivors of the Act.
The role of Department of Energy in EEOICPA
The DOE has been known to provide the worker along with the facility and data to the DOL. They would assist them in making their decision along with supporting the administration of the EEOICPA. Moreover, the DOE has been known to maintain a list of various kinds of facilities that would be covered under the EEOICPA. The list has been published in the Federal Register and would be updated periodically.
In addition to the periodic publication of the list in the Federal Register, it would be pertinent to mention here that the Department of Energy would be required to maintain the searchable covered facility database. It would not be wrong to suggest that the database would be entailing additional information pertaining to every facility noted in the Federal Register. It would be inclusive of several years of activity along with a general overview of what the facility has actually done.
